The R1 is designed for outdoor installation, and other extended temperature applications that require an operating temperature range from –20° to 70° C. The R1 chassis uses a flexible design that makes it easy to install in set-top, wallmount, or rackmount environments.
The R1 provides two expansion slots in a compact steel chassis that includes a fanless processor, high-speed memory,
dual 10/100 ethernet port, and flash storage with no moving parts. Using add-on network cards, the R1 can route multiple IP networks using fractional and full T1 or E1, 56/64K DDS, basic rate ISDN (BRI), wireless, ethernet, and 56K dial-up modem connections.
The R1 runs on the ImageStream Linux router distribution, which provides support for NAT firewall security, IPsec and SSL VPNs, quality of service (QoS), VLAN tagging, VRRP for LAN failover, dynamic routing, packet filtering, bridging, peer-to-peer traffic control, and more. ImageStream Linux also includes the
Inetics platform, which provides a tightly integrated Linux kernel, management software, and the Inetics Driver Component Architecture (IDCA). IDCA supports WAN protocols including PPP, Cisco HDLC, frame relay, ATM, and SoftCell ATM. Inetics also makes it easy to troubleshoot LAN and WAN connections by providing real-time port status and performance monitoring.
