Gateway Express

The Gateway Express router is a high-performance midrange router for applications that require wire-speed performance over T1/E1, DS3/E3, OC3/STM1, OC12/STM4 and gigabit ethernet connections. The Gateway Express supports options for AC or DC power and redundant AC or DC power. It includes an easy-to-service 19-inch 4U rackmount chassis with locking access door, removable processor card, special high-performance memory, PCI Express backplane, and onboard dual 10/100/1000 ethernet ports. The Gateway Express also uses flash storage with no moving parts to maximize reliability.

There are two versions of the Gateway Express: the standard version and the IC4. The standard Gateway Express uses a dual core AMD Opteron CPU, and provides the most flexible expansion options with two x8, two x4, two PCI-X, and two PCI slots. The Gateway Express IC4 uses an Intel Core 2 Quad CPU to provide the highest level of performance possible, with one x16, four x1 and four PCI slots. Both systems use the same chassis with different CPU cards and backplanes.

The PCI and PCI Express slots accept Industrial Series LAN and WAN interface cards. With these add-on cards, the Gateway can connect IP networks using multiple fractional and full T1/E1, fractional and full DS3/E3, OC3/STM1, OC12/STM4, 10 Mb to 10 Gb ethernet, basic rate ISDN (BRI), and 56 K dial-up circuits.

The Gateway Express takes advantage of the ImageStream Linux router distribution, which provides support for NAT firewall security, IPsec and SSL virtual private networks (VPNs), quality of service (QoS), VLAN tagging, VoIP Gateway, SoftPBX, Lawful Intercept (including CALEA), VRRP for LAN failover, dynamic routing, packet filtering, bridging, peer-to-peer traffic control, Powercode OSS support and more. ImageStream Linux also includes the Inetics platform, which provides a tightly integrated Linux kernel, management software, and the Inetics Driver Component Architecture (IDCA). IDCA supports WAN protocols including PPP, Cisco HDLC, frame relay, ATM, and SoftCell  ATM. Inetics also makes it easy to troubleshoot LAN and WAN connections by providing real-time port status and performance monitoring.

The Gateway Express and Gateway Express IC4 can be used in a wide range of applications from the core to the edge. They are ideal routers for high-performance applications that require wire-speed performance with redundant power. The Gateway Express and Gateway Express IC4 work where most Cisco 3800, 7200 and 7500 series routers are used, and they are commonly in multihomed networks that require high-density T1/E1, multiport DS3/E3, OC3/STM1, OC12/STM4, gigabit ethernet and 10 gigabit ethernet connectivity. The Gateway Express and Gateway Express IC4 are the industry's lowest cost OC12/STM4 routers, and they are ideal for use in service provider and telco core and edge applications, enterprise core and Internet gateway applications, and other networks where a high level of performance, scalability and redundancy is required.
