ImageStream Introduces New Envoy 1U at ISPCON
At ISPCON today, ImageStream® announced that it is shipping the new Envoy 1U router. The Envoy 1U is based on ImageStream's original Envoy router design, but adds rackmount capability, support for more ports per chassis, and additional power options.
Like the original Envoy, the new Envoy 1U is designed to route two T1/E1 or synchronous serial interfaces at line speed. The base router includes a fanless 266 MHz CPU, 128 MB RAM, dual 10/100 ethernet ports, and support for ImageStream's low-cost line of Unispec T1/E1 and synchronous serial WAN cards. Also like the original Envoy, the Envoy 1U includes the full-featured ImageStream Linux router distribution, and it is available in an extended temperature version.
The new Envoy 1U is bigger than the original Envoy, and can be mounted in a single 19" rack space. The larger chassis also provides more space for back panel connectors, so it can support up to two HD26 connectors for synchronous serial ports, and up to three LAN or WAN modules that use modular connectors such as RJ48 for T1/E1 and RJ45 for ethernet. The Envoy 1U also includes space to mount optional DC-DC converters, so the chassis' native support for 5 to 12 VDC power can be converted from 24 or -48 VDC.
ImageStream President J.C. Utter commented, "Our customers asked us to produce a low-cost rackmount T1/E1 router with CALEA intercept support that costs less than the other low-cost 1U routers on the market, and the new Envoy 1U delivers on all of these requirements."
The base Envoy 1U retails for $799, and can be bundled with one T1/E1 or sync serial port for $999 or two T1/E1 or sync serial ports for $1,299. The system includes two hours of technical support during business hours, which can be upgraded to unlimited business hours support for three years with the standard Extended Service Plan (ESP).
